Biden considering naming Lloyd Austin Pentagon head - report

United States President-elect Joe Biden is considering appointing Lloyd Austin (pictured left), a retired US Army general, as the country's next defense secretary, Axios reported on Friday citing people familiar with Biden's plans.

Former US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth and ex-Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Michele Flournoy were also reportedly added to the Biden's shortlist for a new head of Pentagon.

A pressure is piling up on the president-elect to name an African American as the Pentagon's head, though he has no intention "to put the Pentagon at the center of things" during his term, according to the report.
