Biden's pick for banking watchdog drops out

Saule Omarova (pictured), whom United States President Joe Biden selected to lead one of the nation's most powerful banking regulators, has withdrawn her nomination for the post, a statement released by the head of state confirmed.

"Saule would have brought invaluable insight and perspective to our important work on behalf of the American people," Biden said. "Unfortunately, from the very beginning of her nomination, Saule was subjected to inappropriate personal attacks that were far beyond the pale," he added.

Omarova, who was born in the former Soviet Union, pulled herself from consideration for the head of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) after being accused of supporting communism.
