Biden says US to defend itself if China threatens its sovereignty
United States President Joe Biden in his State of the Union address said the US will act to protect itself against China if Beijing threatens its sovereignty. "And we did," he added, seemingly commenting on his administration's decision to shoot down a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon over the Atlantic Ocean.
Biden told the lawmakers that he is "committed to work with China where it can advance American interests and benefit the world," noting, however, that "winning the competition with China should unite" everyone.
"In the past two years, democracies have become stronger, not weaker. Autocracies have grown weaker, not stronger," Biden said. "It is never a good bet to bet against America," he stressed.
