Biden UN speech to herald era of 'intensive diplomacy'

United States President Joe Biden will outline his nation's new focus in foreign policy in his upcoming address to the United Nations (UN), a senior administration official said on Monday.

Biden will focus on the withdrawal from Afghanistan as a turning point in US foreign policy and share his vision for an era of both "intensive diplomacy" and "vigorous competition," but avoidance of a Cold War with China. He will stress that he does not believe in a world divided into blocs and that "he believes in vigorous, intensive, principled competition that does not tip over into conflict," according to the official.

The president's intention to use the speech to dismiss speculation of a Cold War with China or any other powers was also touched on by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki earlier in the day.
