Bill Gates: Could be 18 months till coronavirus vaccine
Microsoft founder Bill Gates said that it could take 18 months to develop a vaccine for the coronavirus as the global death toll from the disease topped 160,000.
Speaking alongside his wife Melinda during the One World: Together at Home concert live-streamed across the globe this weekend, the billionaire philanthropist said: "There are a lot of vaccine candidates now that we are backing, and I’m optimistic by late next year one of those will come out, and we need to make sure that it gets out to everyone in the world."
The pandemic will last until a vaccine is developed, he added. "The eventual end comes when we get a vaccine that protects all of us, not just in the US - in the entire world," according to Gates.
