BioNTech promises 75M more vaccine doses for EU

BioNTech wants to send an additional 75 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to the European Union in the second quarter of 2021, CFO and COO Sierk Poetting said on Monday. The figure means the company, which developed its vaccine alongside Pfizer, will return to its original delivery plan, Poetting explained.

Writing ahead of a summit with German government officials, he added the figure should come on top of delivering all promised vaccines in the first quarter. "In order to meet the increased global demand, we plan to produce two billion doses of our Covid-19 vaccine in 2021. To do this, we will increase the previously planned production of 1.3 billion vaccine doses by more than 50%. The measures to expand our production capacities are going according to plan," Poetting stated.

Earlier, Pfizer/BioNTech and AstraZeneca said that they were facing COVID-19 vaccine delivery delays. However, AstraZeneca promised over the weekend that it would deliver an additional 9 million doses to the EU in the first quarter.
