Bitcoin climbs back above $10,000

Bitcoin traded higher on Thursday and climbed back above $10,000 after hitting a near one-month low of $9,084.70 during the previous session.

The world's most widespread cryptocurrency's decline earlier this week came amid a United States Senate hearing on Facebook's digital currency Libra. Calibra head David Marcus insisted Facebook will take time to ensure Libra is "done right," while US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stressed the tech giant must implement the same safeguards and comply with the same rules as "traditional financial institutions."

Bitcoin jumped 5.06% to sell for $10,278 at 10:55 am ET. The cryptocurrency gained over 11% over the past month and has surged 156% since the start of the year.
