Blinken cautious of China's Western investments

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Thursday that he was wary of Chinese investments in economies of the West.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today Programme, Blinken stated that the West has to be "very careful about exactly what the nature is of that investment," adding that this especially applies when it comes to a country's "strategic assets." However, he noted that the Biden administration "was not trying to hold China back," asserting that the United States "was in favor of upholding a rules-based international system."

Blinken has previously accused Beijing of acting "more aggressively" abroad and US President Joe Biden commented that Chinese investments far outstrip those of the US. Meanwhile, US Trade Representative Katherine Tai stated that she will soon meet with her Chinese counterpart.
