Blinken, Guaido address 'peaceful, democratic transition'

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken (pictured) and Venezuelan politician Juan Guaido, whom Washington considers the "interim president" of the South American country, discussed "the importance of a return to democracy in Venezuela through free and fair elections," the State Department revealed.

The US and "likeminded allies, including the European Union, Lima Group, Organization of American States, and International Contact Group" will strengthen efforts to "press for a peaceful, democratic transition," Washington added.

The two officials also addressed "the urgent humanitarian needs in Venezuela that have forced nearly 5.5 million Venezuelans to flee" the country.
