Blinken talks Sudan military takeover with FM al-Mahdi

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken talked about the situation in Sudan and underscored Washington's support for the country's civilian government.

In a conversation with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mariam al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, Blinken said that the US can take steps to support the people of Sudan in their call for a civilian-led transition to democracy. "The Secretary reiterated the US condemnation of the military takeover and urged the immediate release of the detained civilian leaders," Spokesperson for the United States Department of State, Ned Price, said.

On Tuesday, Washington froze $700 million in aid to Sudan after the nation's military arrested its nation's prime ministerand as well as other members of the civilian government.
