Blinken: US deeply concerned over WSJ reporter's detention in Russia

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a statement on Thursday stating the US is "deeply concerned" over Russia's detention of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

"Whenever a US citizen is detained abroad, we immediately seek consular access, and seek to provide all appropriate support," Blinken stated. "In the strongest possible terms, we condemn the Kremlin's continued attempts to intimidate, repress, and punish journalists and civil society voices," he added and advised all American citizens currently in Russia to leave the country.

Earlier, a Russian court confirmed it ordered a two-month detention for Gershkovich over allegations of espionage.
