Boeing expands capacity to convert planes to freighters

Boeing announced on Wednesday that it is expanding its capacity to convert the 737-800 planes from passenger to freight carriers by partnering with Costa-Rican maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider.

The aircraft maker will open two conversion lines, the first of which is scheduled to open in early 2022. Boeing estimates that 1,500 freighter conversions will be administered over the next 20 years to meet the growing demand for cargo deliveries.

"COOPESA [the Costa-Rica-based provider] has demonstrated the technical expertise and commitment to quality and execution necessary to help us meet the growing customer demand for the 737-800BCF, including in the Americas. Boeing is pleased to have COOPESA join our team of MRO partners as we deliver our market-leading converted freighters to customers around the world," Boeing official said.
