Boeing finalizing 737 MAX software update

Boeing Co. is finalizing the previously announced 737 MAX software update, CEO Dennis Muilenburg said following comments by Ethiopian Transport Minister Dagmawit Moges that there were "clear similarities" between Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 crash and the crash of the same model of the Boeing plane in Indonesia last year.

"While investigators continue to work to establish definitive conclusions, Boeing is finalizing its development of a previously-announced software update and pilot training revision that will address the MCAS flight control law's behavior in response to erroneous sensor inputs," Muilenburg said in a statement and added that "Boeing continues to support the investigation and is working with the authorities to evaluate new information as it becomes available."

The Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) is an automated anti-stall system designed to prevent the plane's nose from lifting too high. Media reported earlier, citing industry sources, that the MCAS upgrade should be ready in the next 10 days.
