Boeing's 737 MAX may be back in service in Q1 2020 - EASA

The Boeing Co.'s 737 MAX may return to service in the first quarter of 2020, executive director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Patrick Ky said on Monday.

The problematic airplane, whose faulty software led to two crashes in which 346 people lost their lives, is expected to be approved in January by the regulator. However, national authorities and airlines' preparations may delay the resumption of commercial flights by up to another two months, Ky said.

Ky asserted "a lot" of work has been done on the plane's software, albeit noting there is still additional work to be done.
