Brazil declines Germany's request on tank ammunition

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva allegedly turned down the German government's request to send the ammunition for tanks which will be forwarded to Ukraine, Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo reported on Friday citing military personnel and politicians familiar with the matter.

According to the sources, the matter was brought up to Lula during a meeting on January 20, by now-former Brazilian Army chief, Julio Arruda, who said that the transfer of a batch of its ammunition for Leopard tanks would bring in around 25 million reais (approximately $4.9 million).

Lula rejected the request as he showed concerns that such a move could "provoke the Russians," adding that Brazil wants to remain neutral in the conflict.
