Breton calls on Apple to 'open gates' to competitors
European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton met on Tuesday with Apple Inc. CEO Tim Cook. In a social media post, Breton referenced Apple's recent compliance with EU regulations on USB devices, stating that the next step is "opening up gates to competitors." He added the EU is a "major market for US companies and an opportunity to innovate and diversify their supply chains."
The EU adopted the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in July in an attempt to regulate large online platforms, followed by the designation of six Big Tech companies as "gatekeepers," including Apple. The European Commission gave the firms six months to ensure full compliance with the DMA obligations.
