Brexit deal non-renegotiable - Roth

The deal between London and Brussels over the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union is final and will not be renegotiated, Germany's Minister for Europe Michael Roth said on Tuesday, cautioning Conservative candidates against making unfulfillable campaign promises.

"The EU and its member states cannot be blackmailed. I see no willingness to restart negotiations from the beginning. The candidates would do well to bear that in mind in the course of their internal party campaigns," Roth was quoted saying.

United Kingdom Environment Secretary Michael Gove, who recently announced his bid for the Tory leadership, said that he wants to completely eliminate the Irish backstop arrangement, while Former Secretary of State Boris Johnson claimed the UK should get a better deal before paying €41.8 billion Brexit bill.
