Brisbane in lockdown amid COVID-19 cases surge

Brisbane and ten other local areas in southeast Queensland will enter a three-day lockdown after the zone reported six new cases of the Delta strain of COVID-19.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said people will be allowed to leave home only for essential reasons, while most public cases will be closed. The lockdown will start at 4:00 pm local time and last until at least Tuesday.

The news comes shortly after local authorities extended the lockdown imposed in Sydney until August 28.
