British consumer morale slips in January - GfK

British consumer confidence disappointed expectations in January after the prospects of wider inflation and rising fuel prices have offset the optimism about easing pandemic restrictions, according to a GfK survey conducted for the month.

The Consumer Confidence indicator stood at negative 19 points, deteriorating by 4 points compared to the data seen the month before, however, marking an overall improvement compared to the 34-point drop recorded in April last year after the first coronavirus lockdown.
