Burns: China's bans on US firms likely 'political'
United States Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns underscored on Wednesday that Beijing's bans on American corporations, including the one against the Micron Technologies, look to be "political" in nature and a form of "payback" that Washington is prepared to counter and "push back."
"We are arguing with the Chinese government here to meet its commitments to the World Trade Organization," Burns said during his appearance at the Global Impact Forum.
The ambassador stressed that Beijing's commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Taiwan issue is crucial, underscoring that Washington and Beijing must forge more frequent communication channels to enhance bilateral relations. Last week, Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu refused to meet US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in Singapore.
