California closes indoor restaurants, cinemas over COVID-19 worries

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Monday that some facilities will be ordered to close indoor operations in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Newsom stressed the new measures will apply to indoor restaurants, movie theaters, museums, wineries and zoos in the whole state, as well as to places of worship, hair salons, fitness centers, offices for non-critical sectors and malls in the 30 most-affected counties.

The decision comes amid a spike in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state with 8,358 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
