California unveils optional COVID-19 certificates

The federal state of California announced on Friday that nearly 20 million of its citizens who have received the COVID-19 vaccine are now able to download their digital certificates.

However, State Epidemiologist Dr. Erica Pan explained that the digital "vaccine cards" are optional and that the state doesn't have plans to make carrying the certificate mandatory. The pass could be used for travel, California officials concluded.

Earlier this week, the federal state relaxed some coronavirus-related restrictions as the number of daily recorded cases continued to decline, including removing mask requirements and social distancing limitations for vaccinated people.
