Canada, others urge thorough probe into UIA crash

Canada, Ukraine, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Afghanistan on Thursday urged a "thorough, independent and transparent international investigation" that would be open for participation to other "grieving nations."

The majority of 176 people aboard the doomed flight were of Canadian and Iranian nationality. The aircraft also carried citizens of Afghanistan, Germany and Ukraine, among others.

At a meeting in London, Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said that families of the victims and the international community demand answers, noting that the group of countries headed by him would "not rest" until the plane crash is fully investigated.
