CDC: Omicron accounts for 59% of new US cases

In the seven-day span that ended December 25, the Omicron coronavirus variant accounted for 58.6% of new cases in the United States, the country's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed on Tuesday. The figure is over 14 percentage points lower compared to the federal agency's previous estimate.

Delta strain's share among all cases documented in the same week stood at 41.1%, according to data.

In the week ending December 18, Omicron represented 22.5%, while Delta amounted to 77% of all recently-registered infections.
