CDC: Pfizer, Moderna boosters prevent Omicron hospitalizations

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) remarked on Friday that the booster shots of the vaccines against COVID-19 produced by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE and Moderna Inc. showed high efficiency in preventing hospitalizations from the Omicron strain of the virus.

The agency added the aforementioned boosters proved to be 90% effective in protecting those infected with Omicron from being hospitalized. They also seem to reduce the possibility of visiting health institutions for help. The CDC added those doses were particularly successful in preventing deaths linked to Omicron in people aged 50 and over.

The news comes shortly after Pfizer Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Bourla stated the company expects to have a vaccine aimed specifically at protecting from Omicron in March.
