China accuses West of 'vaccine nationalism'

Developed countries "with 16% of world's population" have procured some 60% of COVID-19 vaccine doses available, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi claimed on Monday, describing the behavior as "vaccine nationalism."

In an interview published on the ministry's website, Wang stated that the stance some countries took has created "a vaccination gap," pointing to a "sad reality" that "some developed countries ordered amounts surpassing their own population" three or four times.

The United States has previously criticized China and Russia, claiming that the two countries use vaccine supply agreements to bolster their influence worldwide.
