China confirms it spent $12B in COVID-19 battle

China has so far either spent or put aside for the coronavirus fight as much as $12 billion, Ambassador Wang Xiaolong stated on Thursday at the country's Foreign Ministry.

Wang, who heads the Department of International Economic Affairs, noted: "About $12 billion have already been allocated and mostly spent inside the country to fight the COVID-19 during the first months of the epidemic."

Additionally, China, where the coronavirus outbreak was first diagnosed, is also donating to other countries hit by the virus. Beijing has already sent supplies to Italy, Spain, Iran and others. Meanwhile, media reports said a United States official has criticized China for donating "a paltry" $20 million to a World Health Organization (WHO) coronavirus fund.
