China confirms Scholz visit on November 4
China's Foreign Ministry confirmed on Friday that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz would visit the country on November 4, becoming the first European leader to make the trip since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang invited Scholz to visit China, the ministry explained. The visit is expected to come amid worsened relations prompted by the European Union's reaction to reports of Bejing's "unfair" trade practices as well as human rights abuses in Xinjiang.
China has been Germany's biggest trading partner over the past years, with the bilateral trade volumes surpassing €245 billion last year.
