China: COVID-19 affecting foreign trade development

Chinese Ministry of Commerce official Xingqian Li said the COVID-19 outbreak affected the country's development of foreign trade.

He revealed Beijing is looking to expedite the implementation of new measures in an effort to counter the epidemic's impact on the economy. Li noted that despite the challenges the virus posed for foreign trade, a large number of layoffs in the sector is not expected. The ministry official went on to underscore the impact on supply chains will only be temporary, as the country is working on continuing production.

Earlier, the country's Hubei province, where the outbreak began reported the number of deaths due to the deadly virus increased by 115 in the province in the past day, bringing the total death toll to 2,144.
