China energy rules threaten Apple supply chains - report

Disruptions in China's energy supplies could lead to further turmoil in global supply chains ahead of peak iPhone production season, the Financial Times reported citing multiple Apple Inc. suppliers.

Companies had to stop or decrease production in order to comply with new Chinese energy regulations. Furthermore, the report indicates that the situation is controllable at the moment, but an executive noted that disruptions could be "huge" if the inventories run out.

Previously, it was reported that the suppliers had to stop using electricity in the last week of September and reduce their energy use by 10% to 30% following Beijing's warning that it would give harsher fines to counties that don't meet its new energy targets.
