China lodges complaint over US offical's Taiwan visit

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday it lodged a complaint over United States Undersecretary for Economic Affairs Keith Krach's upcoming visit to Taiwan.

The ministry's spokesman Wang Wenbin (pictured) noted Beijing lodged "stern representations" with Washington and will make a "necessary response" to US actions "depending on how the situation develops." China added it opposes any official exchanges between Taiwan and the US.

Krach is scheduled to visit Taiwan on Friday where he will meet its President Tsai Ing-wen. Last week, Chinese media reported Beijing is planning to sanction any US official who visits Taiwan.
