China notes progress in Iran talks

Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Wang Qun said the progress made in talks with Iran on rejoining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) "should not be underestimated, although a breakthrough is far from being achieved," according to Xinhua. The signatories met in Vienna this week to negotiate Iran's rejoining the pact, with the United States expressing a negative view of Tehran's participation.

Wang said that "the talks helped other parties to increase their understanding of the position of the negotiation team of Iran's new government," adding that "China will continue to firmly support the resumption of the negotiation process between the United States and Iran, and to play a unique and constructive role working with all parties for achieving results at an early date."
