China exports fall less than expected in October

China's trade surplus with the United States in the period from January to October was at $247.74 billion while in October the trade surplus with the US grew to $26.42 billion, China's General Administration of Customs said in a release on Friday. The total trade surplus was $43 billion in the last reported month, also better than market watchers expected amid the trade war between Beijing and Washington.

China exports fell by 0.9% year-on-year in dollar terms, better than the expected. Imports fell by 6.4% from a year ago in October.

China’s Commerce Ministry said on Thursday that Beijing had agreed with Washington to lift existing trade tariffs in phases. However, Trump advisor Peter Navarro claimed that there is "no agreement at this time to remove any of the tariffs as a condition of the Phase One deal."
