China's Liu: Foolish to rush phase two trade deal

Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He (pictured left) told local media on Thursday that it would be "unwise" to hasten a phase two trade deal with the United States. His comments follow yesterday's signing of a partial trade agreement with United States President Donald Trump at the White House.

US Vice President Mike Pence said on Wednesday that negotiations on the phase two trade agreement with China have already begun, echoing President Trump's words earlier in the week that phase two negotiations will begin "immediately," and not after the 2020 US presidential election.

However, the Chinese Vice-Premier said soon after the signing that "we might get nothing if we rush to a second job before the first one is properly done. I don’t think it is a wise choice to impatiently launch new stages of talks."
