China's trade surplus jumps to $42.8B in April

China's trade surplus increased to $42.8 billion in April from $13.8 billion in March, according to the latest data by the country's General Administration of Customs released on Friday. The sharp growth exceeded expectations of around $28.1 billion.

Exports from China were up 32.3% on a yearly basis in dollar terms compared to expectations of around 24.1%. Meanwhile, imports rose 43.1% in April from the same month in 2020, beating estimates of approximately 42.5%. Chinese imports increased at the fastest pace since January 2011.
