China says it will react if US adds more tariffs

China insists its "fundamental demands" must be met in trade talks with the United States and if the US introduces more tariffs, China will react, the country's Commerce Ministry spokesman Gao Feng stated on Thursday. Gao added that the Commerce Ministry hopes Washington will listen to calls from US companies and stop enticing a trade war and threatening with tariffs.

Gao informed the press that trade talks between the US and China will resume following direct instructions from presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump. The spokesman also confirmed that Trump said in a recent phone call with Xi that the two countries should come to an agreement on a trade deal "soon."

Earlier, Trump commented on his call with Xi and said that China and the US will either reach a fair deal or there will be no deal at all.
