China summons US diplomat over Xinjiang bill

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng has summoned an official from the American embassy and made a "stern representation" in regards to the bill that passed in the United States House of Representatives yesterday, which condemns Beijing's policies in the Xinjiang province.

The Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2019 got bipartisan support in the lower house of Congress, with only one member of the House voting against it.

The human rights dispute between the two countries, however, doesn't seem to affect the progress being made in trade talks, according to media reports.
