China urges US to cancel arms sale deal with Taiwan

China's Foreign Ministry stated on Tuesday that the United States must cancel the arms sale deal it has reached with Taiwan, or Beijing will have to take necessary measures to "uphold its sovereignty." The ministry insisted that Washington should also end military contact it has with Taiwan.

US State Department previously approved selling 100 Harpoon Coastal Defense Systems (HCDS) and other equipment worth $4.2 billion to the country which China considers as part of its territory. In response, Beijing imposed sanctions on American companies participating in the deal - Lockheed Martin, Boeing Defense and Raytheon.
