China won't dismiss use of force in Taiwan case

The whitepaper titled The Taiwan Question and China's Reunification in the New Era, released by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and the State Council Information Office of the People's Republic of China on Wednesday, revealed that Beijing does not plan to rule out the use of force when it comes to the reunification issue.

"We reserve the option of taking all necessary measures," it was written in the paper. Nevertheless, China underlined that the use of force would only be a "last resort" option, adding that the country will "work with the greatest sincerity and exert our utmost efforts to achieve peaceful reunification." Beijing once again reiterated that "Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times" and asserted that any interference by external forces trying to obstruct the process "will surely be defeated."
