China's GDP up 7.9% in Q2

The gross domestic product (GDP) of China rose by 7.9% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2021, according to a preliminary report released by the country's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Thursday.

The data showed goods and services produced by Beijing in the first half of the year surprised investors' expectations with the value-added of the primary industry landing at 2.84 billion yuan, increasing 7.8% on an annual basis, while the secondary industry rose by 14.8% to reach 20.71 billion yuan, as the tertiary industry went up by 11.8% to 29.66 billion yuan.

Compared to the figure seen in the third quarter of the year, the GDP decreased by 1.4 percentage points, while the quarter-on-quarter GDP growth of the second quarter stood at 1.3%.
