China's govt divided on US blacklist issue - report

The Chinese government is in the final stages of developing a blacklist that could be used to sanction the United States' companies, but officials are split whether to publish the list, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

The "unreliable-entity" list, which was first announced in 2019, would reportedly bar blacklisted companies and individuals from buying, selling, and investing in China. The draft document is being made via a questionnaire sent to the country's ministries, which are expected to name companies they think should be banned, the WSJ writes. So far, Cisco Systems Inc. is supposedly the only business that made all the lists.

Some officials, including Vice Premier Liu He (pictured), are concerned that announcing the list before the US elections in November could provoke an even harder response from Washington, the newspaper said.
