China's inflation up to 0.2% in December

China's consumer price index (CPI) surprised expectations in December, marking an annual growth of 0.2%, according to a report by the country's National Bureau of Statistics released on Monday.

The headline inflation index went up by 0.7 percentage points from the figure seen in November when the country marked a contraction for the first time since 2009. Consumer prices in December on a monthly basis landed at 0.7%, in contrast with the previous month's figure which stood at negative 0.6%.

In the meantime, the country's producer price index (PPI) went 0.4% down year-on-year, still above the estimated number.
