China's inflation up to 0.9% in April

China's consumer price index (CPI) disappointed investors' expectations in April despite increasing by 0.9% on an annual basis, according to a report by the country's National Bureau of Statistics, released on Tuesday.

The year-on-year number marks an improvement compared to last month's figure of 0.4%. Meanwhile, consumer prices on a monthly basis landed at negative 0.3%, rising by 0.2% from the figure seen in March.

In the meantime, the country's producer price index (PPI) rose by 6.8% compared to the April 2020 figure.
