China's South China Sea policy unchanged - FM

Spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wang Wenbin (pictured) said on Tuesday that Beijing's policy on the South China Sea remains "unchanged, consistent, and stable" and in strict accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Wang stressed China has "always insisted on resolving territorial and maritime rights disputes with neighboring countries through negotiation" and added that the United States "violated its commitment not to hold a stand on the issue of South China Sea sovereignty."

China recently received criticism from countries such as the US and Australia, who described Beijing's claims of maritime territories in it as "unlawful."
