Clippers, Rivers part ways after early playoffs exit

The Los Angeles Clippers parted ways with head coach Doc Rivers (pictured) following the team's elimination in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Denver Nuggets despite being considered one of the top contenders to win the NBA title, Rivers announced on Monday.

"Thank you Clipper Nation for allowing me to be your coach and for all your support in helping make this a winning franchise. Though it was a disappointing ending to our season, you are right there and I know what this team is capable of accomplishing with your support," the coach said in a statement on Twitter.

After blowing a 3-1 lead in the series against the Nuggets, he said that the Clippers "didn't meet expectations" and claimed he stands ready to "take any blame for it." Rivers has been serving as the team's head coach since 2013, failing to lead the Los Angeles-based franchise to the Conference Finals during his time with the team.
