Coronavirus spreads to S. America with first case in Brazil

The coronavirus outbreak arrived in South America as the Brazilian Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that a 61-year-old man in Sao Paulo was tested positive for COVID-19. The officials said that the person recently visited northern Italy.

Meanwhile, South Korea became the first country aside from China with more than 1,000 confirmed cases as its coronavirus cases count jumped to 1,261, while 12 people were killed by the virus-related diseases in the country. Chinese National Health Commission stated on Wednesday that the death toll rose by 52 in the past day, reaching 2,715 nationwide, with the number of COVID-19 cases topping 78,000.

The spreading of the infection to Europe raised concerns as well, with Austria, Croatia and Switzerland reporting their first cases on Tuesday. Italy, the epicenter of the infection in the continent, marked the highest coronavirus cases count outside Asia with 325 people tested positive while the virus took 11 lives in the country so far.
