COVAX delivers 38.4M vaccines in six weeks

COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) has delivered more than 38.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to over 100 economies since its first international delivery in February, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in a press release published on Thursday.

Of the countries that received the vaccines, 61 are among the 92 lower-income economies that are receiving vaccines funded through the Gavi COVAX Advance Market Commitment. Dr. Seth Berkley, CEO of Gavi, said that COVAX might be on track to deliver vaccines to the remaining economies within the first half of the year, but that they still face a daunting challenge and that "this is no time for complacency."

COVAX is expected to deliver at least 2 billion doses of vaccines, according to its latest supply forecast. The facility delivers vaccines from three manufacturers, AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, and the Serum Institute of India.
