COVID-19 cases in Russia surge to January highs

The number of newly registered COVID-19 cases in Russia soared to more than 20,000 and reached the highest level since January, according to the Health Ministry's data updated on Thursday.

The country recorded 20,182 positive cases over the past day, as well as 568 coronavirus-related deaths, with Moscow and St. Petersburg being the most affected areas.

In response to the crisis, only people who have been vaccinated or had the COVID-19 can enter bars and restaurants in Moscow, while non-urgent medical treatments are temporarily limited for non-vaccinated citizens.
