Criminal complaint filed against ex-Wirecard CEO

A criminal complaint has been filed in Austria against former Wirecard executives Markus Braun (pictured) and Jan Marsalen amid the company's financial statements scandal, local media reported on Tuesday.

Former CEO Braun and former COO Marsalek are being accused by a lawyer of market manipulation as he claims Braun bought 2.5 million stocks of Wirecard after taking out a loan in May.

Wirecard shares dropped in April initially after first signals emerged that the company could be facing some trouble after an audit. Wirecard stocks were as high as €144.5 earlier this year but finished April under €85. The shares additionally plunged after the company filed for insolvency and only started recovering this week. Wirecard jumped 63.16% but went for only €5.319 at 3:12 pm ET.
