De Blasio, Klobuchar call for Trump impeachment to start

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Democratic presidential hopeful Amy Klobuchar said on Friday that a process to impeach United States President Donald Trump needs to start right away. They both stated that Trump's comments on taking information on a political opponent in the US from a foreign government were enough to start the process.

De Blasio said that Trump's comments were "an invitation" to foreign actors. The mayor stated that, for him, that was the "last straw" and that Trump must be impeached. Klobuchar's statement was slightly milder as she said she would back the proceedings starting right away, but noted that she understands "that they may want to be doing investigations leading up to it and I think they should be given the time to do that."

Earlier this week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the Democrats are not close to impeaching the president but a number of Democrats hoping to win the White House in 2020, including former Vice President Joe Biden, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, said the impeachment may be necessary.
